Perijove – July 13 2017 – Our Wide Sky

Perijove – July 13 2017

Perijove is the term for when an orbit reaches it's closest distance to to Jupiter. In this case it is the Juno space craft that is grabbing everyone's attention.

This week the orbit path traversed the Great Red Spot, Jupiter's massive storm and Juno got it's best chance to take photos and data. It sent back incredible images, with data that will keep astronomers busy for years to understand the way the largest storm in the Solar System works.

The image data was released to the public who quickly turned their image processing skills to the task and produced some amazing images to share all over social media.
